Autograph letter signed « W. S. », addressed to the painter Paul Robert.
No date ; 1/2 page in-4°, on paper with header of Neuville-lez-Dieppe.
« Ravi, cher ami, je les renvoie. J’ai été enrhumé, et dû garder la chambre. J’espère vous revoir bientôt. Je m’en vais tâcher de passer un jour ou deux à Paris avant de retourner à Venezia. » The painter spent a lot of time in France at the end of the 1880s, mainly in Dieppe where his mistress lived and the son he would have had of her. He stayed several times in Venice between 1894 and 1904. Given the date of the following long letter, it is almost certain that he evokes here his last stay in Venice, in 1903-1904, which was decisive for his art.
